The Delhi government approached the Supreme Court, challenging the formation of the committee, arguing that the committee should be headed by an expert in the relevant field. The Supreme Court, which took up the investigation, stayed the committee formed by the NGTT. The investigation has been ongoing for two years, and the work of making the Yamuna River free from pollution has come to a halt. Due to the growing controversy, the distance between Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena and the AAP government widened. The LG repeatedly warned that the AAP government would face the curse of the Yamuna River. In his statement, the Lieutenant Governor announced the dissolution of the 7th Delhi Assembly.
